Remodeling? Now is a Great Time to Insulate!
During a remodeling project, your home’s primary insulating areas are open. This is a great time to upgrade insulation while attic roofs and wall studs are open and exposed.
Areas such as walls, ceilings and other areas that are normally closed off and more difficult to insulate become fully accessible during a remodel. This gives a contractor more insulating options and you can benefit from upgraded insulation solutions. These upgraded insulation solutions include:
Spray Foam Insulation – spray foam insulation is one product that insulates and seals air leaks in one step. When applied, spray foam expands to fill a cavity (similar to how shaving cream expands when dispensed from a can). This property allows spray foam to seal air leaks as it naturally expands and fills a cavity and any penetration points within.
Hybrid Insulation – A hybrid insulation system combines the air sealing benefits of spray foam insulation with the lower price point of fiberglass insulation. In a hybrid system, an open cavity is sprayed with a layer of foam insulation to seal air leaks. In the next step, fiberglass batt insulation is installed to add R-value without filling the cavity with spray foam.
